We recently attended RFID Journal LIVE! 2014 in Orlando, Florida. While at the show, we interviewed leaders, systems manufacturers, and solutions providers in the RFID industry. In this interview, we spoke with Adebayo Onigbanjo, Senior Product Manager at Zebra Technologies.
On the other side of the Zebra Technologies booth, we found one of Zebra’s most innovative technologies introduced last year, Zatar. An open-platform “Facebook” for your enterprise devices, Zatar connects your cloud-based, internet of things devices into one interface. The secure platform enables simple machine-to-machine (M2M) communication using USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi, and you can remotely manage information about each device on their “profile” page within the Zatar app.
Zatar translates each device’s data into a format other devices understand and use. Zatar does the dirty work of enterprise integrations making it a true plug-and-play application; however, developers can create their own applications on the Zatar platform using its flexible RESTful APIs.
Because Zatar is a cloud-based platform, you can interact with your devices from any location and even see each device’s recent activities. Also, the internet of things platform is constantly adding supported devices like the new iBeacon. Apple’s iBeacon technology extends Zatar’s reach by adding location services to the platform. Zebra envisions Zatar integrated with iBeacon will transform the consumer shopping experience by integrating display messaging and a value-added experience for the customer.
With Zatar’s mobile phone app, you can keep all the information about each device close at hand and view other people’s devices if they are set to public view. To learn more about the Internet of Things, check out our article A Primer On The Internet of Things & RFID.
