You’ve seen our RFID guides and e-books, but we wanted to go in a different direction with our next piece of long form content, so we decided to delve deeper into the growing world of RFID race timing. We sat down with our long time customer Ryan Henry, co-founder of RaceWire, and received his insider’s take on the industry. Ryan explained how he first became involved with the race timing industry and discussed the changes he’s seen over the years. Long-time experts in the industry, RaceWire shared their expansive knowledge gained from extensive testing and experience. As a result of Ryan’s willingness to share information, we received an up-close, exclusive view of everything necessary to be successful in a fast-paced industry.
With hundreds of races under RaceWire’s belt, Ryan witnessed the biggest change in the electronic race timing industry — the switch from reusable to disposable RFID tags. Disposable tags have become the new normal among race timers. Before disposable tags debuted on the market, reusable tags were used for every race; unfortunately, they were not the most user-friendly tags. Race participants would lose or damage the tags which resulted in extra costs for the race director, and the reusable tags required long hours of preparation leading up to each race.
