At RFID Journal LIVE! 2013, we spoke with Mike Crudele, Owner and General Manager of Arcadian, Inc. They are a Laird Technologies distributor, and Mike showed us a few of Laird’s most popular RFID Antennas.
The first product we look at is Laird’s popular 10″ x 10″ Circular Polarized Panel RFID Antenna which is available in both FCC and ETSI frequency bands. The panel antenna features a weather resistant radome and is ideal for use in warehouses, shipping yards, and other industrial environments.
Laird’s second most popular antennas is the 5″ x 5″ mini Outdoor RFID antenna, which now has the option of a right angle SMA female connector allowing for low-profile mounting. This circular polarized RFID antenna offers great read ranges in a smaller package.
Next, we see a new panel RFID antenna that is similar to the previously seen 10″ x 10″ antenna; however, since the new antenna has a fixed-end female connector, it reduces the opportunity for water intrusion earning an IP67 rating.
We then see a Linear Polarized RFID antenna from Laird. It’s outdoor rated and is perfect for applications where RFID tag orientation is not an issue. Afterwards, Mike shows us a custom radome enclosure. The lid of the hardcase features an enclosed 10″ x 10″ RFID antenna; once you open the case, you have space to mount your RFID reader inside the box with weather-rated cables coming out of the enclosure.
Before we left, Mike showed us some antenna mounting kits and solutions offered by Laird Technologies. Properly mounting RFID antennas is crucial for obtaining optimum performance in your RFID deployment.
