We recently attended RFID Journal LIVE! 2014 in Orlando, Florida. While at the show, we interviewed leaders, systems manufacturers, and solutions providers in the RFID industry. In this interview we spoke with Debbie Power, Sales Manager, (Americas) of ThingMagic.
Debbie Power showed us Thingmagic’s array of high-performing RFID readers and shared a little more about their line of high quality hardware.
The Vega was the first reader on our tour of the ThingMagic booth. This reader has the unique feature of being able to connect to a car battery through a pigtail connector as well as a wall outlet with a standard connector. It is rugged and can connect to up to three antennas. The Vega is great for mobile applications that require the reader to be in a car or forklift.
The Astra-EX is an integrated reader in a small form factor. It is capable of Wi-Fi connectivity and can connect to up to one additional antenna. It is feature rich and is perfect for any business environment. The back of the reader has mounting holes so that it can be mounted on a wall or pole depending on the application.
The next two readers on our tour are also our two best-selling readers. The M6, or Mercury 6, reader has a remarkable 31.5 dBi and has optional Wi-Fi connectivity. It can be powered through a wall outlet, battery, or through PoE. On the back of the reader, you can see that it has GPIO capability and four antenna ports so it can be used for larger applications.
The ThingMagic USB+ Reader was right next door. With a tiny form factor, the USB reader has a read range of around 3 feet, read/write capability, a 1 dBi antenna, and a USB connector. It is used mainly for small reading and writing functions and in applications that do not require a long read range. As Debbie pointed out, this feisty reader is convenient for almost every application.
