In May, we attended RFID Journal LIVE! 2016 located in Orlando, Florida. While we were there, we interviewed manufacturers, solutions providers, and industry speakers in hopes of learning more about the new products and applications currently emerging in the RFID industry. In this interview, we spoke with Debbie Power, Sales Manager, (Americas) of ThingMagic.
This year, we were very excited to see the ThingMagic/Trimble booth because of the three new reader products launched in 2015/2016 – the USB Pro, the Juno T41 R, and the Sargas. Each one of these readers generated lots of excitement within the industry upon their release because of the number of new features and options.
Sargas UHF RFID Reader
The first reader on the tour was the Sargas UHF RFID reader. The Sargas reader is a small, fixed UHF RFID reader – only measuring 3.5 x 3 x 1 inches. Based on the ThingMagic Micro module, it has a read rate of about 750 tags per second and a transmit power of up to 30+ dBm. The features that really stood out were the powerful Linux processor, the HDMI port, and the host USB port that can enable communication with additional proprietary accessories like a Bluetooth BLE reader, a power injector for PoE, and a Wi-Fi adapter. Ideal applications for the Sargas reader include access control, document tracking, event management, and more.
ThingMagic USB Pro RFID Reader
The next reader Debbie showed us was the USB Pro RFID reader. Released in 2015, the USB Pro is the next generation in the USB reader family and takes the features and options on the USB Plus+ to the next level. The USB Pro has the same form factor as its predecessor and a similar internal antenna, but increases usability by adding an external antenna port and increasing transmit power from 23 dBm to 30 dBm. Another notable feature in the new USB Pro is the ability to support multiple protocols like G2V2, AEI ATA, ISO 18000-6B, and others.
Trimble Juno T41 Rugged RFID Reader
The Trimble Juno T41 R was the final reader on our tour of the Trimble/ThingMagic booth. This reader is an extremely rugged handheld device that is used in high-value asset inspections and inventory management & tracking applications. The Juno T41 R, like the Sargas, is based on the ThingMagic Micro module, meaning it has a transmit power of +30 dBm and a read rate of 750 tags per second. It has onboard GPS capabilities that can be combined with an external GPS antenna for more precise positioning abilities.
